SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - Every cloud has a silver lining. With all the budgetary constraints pressing Cal State San Bernardino this year, the universitys Robert V. The season opens with a public reception on Thursday, Oct. 1, from 5-7 p.m. with a preview for Friends of the Museum at 4:30 p.m.

Fall exhibitions include highlights from the museums permanent collection, Treasures from Ancient Egypt and Contemporary Works on Paper, as well as Tomoko Suzukis Rain, and the highly anticipated first ever exhibition dedicated to the history of graphic design, Pan: A Graphic Art Time Capsule of Avant-garde Europe, 1895-1900.

PAN, on display until Jan. 23, will include 75 works from the arts and literary Art Nouveau periodical Pan, an important multi-volume journal, published in Germany between 1895 and 1900. Pieces by Auguste Rodin, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, George Seurat, Henri Van de Velde, Kthe Kollwitz, and Peter Behrens, to mention only a few, are among the more famous graphic works included in the exhibition.

The fall and winter will be filled with lectures given by museum director Eva Kirsch. Topics include the history of graphic design and the recurring romantic attitudes of art history in the last 200 years. In general, lectures are held on the second Thursday of every month. Visit the museum Web site http://museum.csusb.edu for exact dates.

Fun attractions for families include the museums second annual Spooky Night, an alternative Halloween celebration with an ancient Egyptian theme set for Oct. 30 and running from 6-9 p.m. This educational event will engage the whole family with night tours of the Egyptian exhibit, a costume contest, spooky stories on Egypt, a scavenger hunt and light refreshments.

New exhibits will open Feb. 20, including a solo exhibit of sculptures by David Olivant and a tandem show by Dylan Palmer and Colby Bird. Both shows will run through May 15. The free public reception will be held from 5-7 p.m.

For spring 2010, the museum has a full-bloom of fresh ideas and extraordinary events. In conjunction with the Los Angeles Opera, and its first ever staging of Richard Wagners Ring of the Nibelung cycle, the RVF Art Museum will invite the public to a series of exhibitions, lectures, interactive workshops and performances as the museum mirrors events held for the massive Ring Festival LA.
The Timeless Enchantment: Retelling Richard Wagners Ring of the Nibelung in Art, Music, Movies, and Literature project will begin on March 11 with an introductory lecture on Wagner.

The Wagner events will celebrate and investigate the various ways in which the story and music of Richard Wagners Ring of the Nibelung cycle has continued to be used, retold and adapted in song, painting, theater, literature, movies and comic books.

The opening of an art exhibition, Timeless Enchantment: Richard Wagners Ring of the Nibelung in Visual Arts and Performance is scheduled for April 8. During the opening, museum director Eva Kirsch will give an introductory lecture about the Ring and a tour of the exhibition.

In late April, CSUSB will collaborate with the University of California, Riverside to host a Hip Hop Music Theatre Workshop for Teens at the RVF Art Museum. The workshop will use Rickerby Hinds hip hop performance, based loosely on the Ring story and set in the hip hop record industry. David Marshall, a renowned medievalist, is scheduled to present captivating talks on the Ring in popular culture.

The Timeless Enchantment series will conclude at the end of May, when the RVF Art Museum will hold short talks on the Ring and how it has influenced the visual arts and popular culture.
