YOU'RE NEVER TOO OLD TO GO TO THE 'PROM SHOW'

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - Prom is an event that almost all Americans remember, and if they don't, they remember not going.

Photographer Staci Schwartz has captured the spectacle behind this teen rite of passage at various locations across the east coast; and these high school celebs will be on exhibit at Cal State San Bernardino's Robert V. Fullerton Art Museum through May 2 in "Prom Show!"

"The high school prom is a slice of Americana that celebrates and idealizes youth, beauty and high expectations," says Schwartz. "Most of these photos are part of a series that documents the pageantry of the Long Island prom scene."

"Prom Show!" provides museum goers with a window into the world of today's young culture and the pressures teenage girls face when trying to transform into a celebutant worthy of Hollywood 's red carpet.

Schwartz has been documenting various social events in New York for the past 15 years. In addition to her position as photo editor and director for The Village Voice, she has shown her work in solo and group exhibitions nationwide. Schwartz has also been a guest lecturer at the School of Visual Arts , Pratt Institute and Empire State College. Her photography has been widely published, from the New York Times to Vogue Magazine.

Established in 1996, CSUSB's Robert V. Fullerton Art Museum has accumulated a permanent collection of nearly 1,200 objects focusing on Egyptian antiquities, ceramics, and contemporary art. With more than 7,500 square feet of gallery space, the RVF Art Museum magnificently displays a wide variety of art work from its permanent holdings to a dynamic schedule of visiting exhibitions.

Last year, the Fullerton Art Museum gained the highest national recognition a museum can receive - accreditation from the American Association of Museums. With that, it joins only 4 percent of the museums accredited by AAM in the country.

Through Feb. 15 - the duration of the "Excavating Egypt" exhibit - the RVF Art Museum will charge a $5 admission fee for all shows. Senior citizens and students are $3 and all CSUSB students, faculty and staff and children under the age of 6 are free. Parking is $5 per vehicle.

Hours: Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., closed Sunday and Monday. Phone: (909) 537-7373.
