CSUSB ART FACULTY INSTALLS CERAMIC SHOW AT UNIVERSITY MUSEUM

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - Explore the parallels between biology and machinery in "Visceralab," Alison Petty Ragguette's ceramics installation featured in the Robert V. Fullerton Art Museum at Cal State San Bernardino. The exhibit opens Thursday, April 10, with an opening reception at the museum.

An assistant professor of art at CSUSB since September 2006, Ragguette "combines naked porcelain with brightly colored translucent silicone to make objects that are both playful and alien," she says. These ceramic sculptures represent the intricate workings of human anatomy, while incorporating manufactured design and examining "the mechanical world of nature."

With more than 14 years of experience as a ceramics artist, Ragguette has exhibited her work in both the United States and Canada. She received her B.F.A. from Concordia University and an M.F.A. from the California College of the Arts, and has taught ceramics at both recreational and university levels.

A reception for "Visceralab" is scheduled for Thursday April 10 at the museum from 5-7 p.m., with a preview for Friends of the Museum at 4:30 p.m. The exhibit is a part of the "News from the Art Department" series at CSUSB's Robert V. Fullerton Art Museum.

About the Robert V. Fullerton Art Museum

Home to what is considered the largest collection of ancient Egyptian art west of the Mississippi River, the Robert V. Fullerton Art Museum was established in 1996. It has accumulated a collection of nearly 1,200 objects focusing on ceramics and ancient and contemporary art; the largest of which includes some 500 objects encompassing more than 4,000 years of Egyptian history.

Admission for exhibits at the Robert V. Fullerton Art Museum is free. Hours are Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The museum is closed Sunday and Monday. Parking is $4 per vehicle. Phone: (909) 537-7373.
