ARTIST ALUMNUS RETURNS TO EXHIBIT WORK AT UNIVERSITY MUSEUM
SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - Every year, an average of 75 students graduate from Cal State San Bernardino’s art program, and accomplished artist Katrin Wiese is among those who mark CSUSB as their alma mater.
Beginning Jan. 12, Wiese will exhibit a new series of her work titled, “Night Time is the Right Time,” at Cal State San Bernardino’s Robert V. Fullerton Art Museum. In her paintings, Katrin exposes the rich productions of her imagination, creating a fourth-dimensional world for passersby.
Wiese’s exhibition will be on display through March 15. A reception for the show will be held Jan. 31, 4:30-7 p.m. with a preview for Friends of the Museum at 4 p.m.
Included in the new series is “Blinky and the Big Blonde,” acrylic on wood, a piece that provides the perfect picture into the artistic imagination of Wiese. As the artist describes, “A cut-away house reveals a teeming mix of the ordinary and the surreal … bird-people sit on the roof, a nude man plays cat’s cradle on a ledge, aliens peer out of windows while a giant blonde woman presides, holding a cigarette in one of her three arms while leaning on a tank of water in which mutant creatures swim.”
Wiese received her master of arts from CSUSB in 1987. She has taught at several universities, including La Sierra University, University of Redlands and Cal State San Bernardino. In addition to her many solo exhibits, Wiese has painted murals for the Riverside Arts Foundation and Washington State University.
