RECENT ACQUISITIONS

In March 2006, our museum received a spectacular gift of 9 ancient Egyptian objects from the Harer Family Trust. The oldest among the donated objects is a Predynastic cosmetic fish-shaped palette with the remains of red-ochre powder. The two most mesmerizing objects, however, are a rare Third Intermediate Period polychrome wood statue of Osiris and a set of Third Intermediate Period stone canopic jars with hieratic inscriptions (see photographs). These objects - the all time favorites of our visitors - are now added to the museum’s permanent holdings of close to 100 Egyptian antiquities (most of them gifts of the Harer Family Trust). They will be back on display by June 2006. More than 300 other Egyptian objects are housed in our museum as an extended loan from the Harer Family Trust and other collectors.
